Conditions
What are the causes of spider and varicose veins?
Spider and varicose veins are common conditions that appear on the legs, and they’re caused by weakened valves in leg veins — a condition known as chronic venous insufficiency. The most common risk factors of vein disease are pregnancy, heredity, obesity, standing for long periods of time, age, and medical conditions that damage the veins.
What are the symptoms of spider and varicose veins?
Spider veins are marked by unsightly, red, purple, and blue web-like patterns on the skin’s surface. Varicose veins often appear as twisted, bulging, and discolored veins that bulge out of the skin’s surface. Symptoms for both conditions include burning, throbbing, aching, leg fatigue, and swelling of the feet and ankles.
What are the differences between spider and varicose veins?
Spider and varicose veins are very similar in that they’re both unsightly, sometimes swollen, clusters of veins that appear beneath the skin’s surface. However, spider veins tend to be finer, thread-like lines that usually appear in the legs and face, while varicose veins tend to be thicker, bluish-purple rope-like veins that bulge out of the skin’s surface on the legs.
How do I know if I suffer from Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI)?
Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI) is a condition that occurs when the veins in the legs cannot effectively return blood to the heart. Symptoms of CVI include aching or feeling of heaviness in the legs, discoloration of the skin, swelling of the legs, restless leg syndrome, leg cramps, and varicose veins. If you experience these symptoms, please consult your vein doctor.
What are the symptoms of Chronic Venous Insufficiency?
Symptoms of venous insufficiency include:
· Swelling of the legs or ankles (edema)
· Pain that gets worse when you stand and gets better when you raise your legs
· Leg cramps
· Aching, throbbing, or a feeling of heaviness in your legs
· Itchy legs
· Weak legs
· Thickening of the skin on your legs or ankles
· Skin that is changing color, especially around the ankles
· Leg ulcers
· Varicose veins
· A feeling of tightness in your calve
Treatments
What treatment could be better for my condition?
If you have spider veins or varicose veins, your vein doctor may recommend a combination of lifestyle modifications, compression stockings, and minimally invasive procedures, such as sclerotherapy, radiofrequency ablation, endovenous laser ablation, VenaSeal, and ambulatory phlebectomy. The vein doctor will select the best treatment for your condition after a thorough evaluation and diagnosis.
Any of the treatments I will get are painful?
We offer minimally invasive spider vein and varicose vein treatments that involve simple injections or a small incision on the skin’s surface. We administer treatments under local anesthesia so you don’t feel any pain. You might feel a little pinch as the needle enters your skin, followed by a mild cramping sensation, but there’s no pain.
How long is the effectiveness of my procedure?
We offer minimally invasive procedures that address the root cause of your vein problems — not just the symptoms. Once spider veins and varicose veins are removed, they can’t return. However, you may develop new spider veins, especially if the underlying problem hasn’t been addressed. Our vein doctors always diagnose and treat the root cause of your vein problems to prevent the recurrence of spider and varicose veins.
How long is the downtime after I get my procedure?
Minimally invasive spider vein and varicose vein treatments don’t involve any downtime. You can resume your daily activities and work immediately after the treatment. In fact, most of our patients undergo treatment during their lunch break and resume daily activities immediately after. However, you should avoid strenuous workouts and heavy lifting after the procedure.
Could I pay in cash if I prefer it?
Yes, we welcome cash payments for our treatments.
When will I start seeing results?
The onset of results will depend on the severity of your condition, the location and size of your spider veins and varicose veins, and whether you have underlying venous insufficiency. For example, sclerotherapy can gradually dissolve your spider veins within 3 weeks, but varicose veins may take a few months to fade away completely. Some procedures, such as ambulatory phlebectomy for varicose veins, may also produce instant results.
Do I need to come back to the vein center after I get my procedure?
Some vein treatments, such as sclerotherapy, may involve two or three sessions spaced a few weeks apart for optimal results. However, in most cases, one session is all you need.
What kind of treatments do you have?
We only offer minimally invasive spider vein and varicose vein treatments, such as sclerotherapy, endovenous laser ablation, radiofrequency ablation, VenaSeal, and ambulatory phlebectomy. Our minimally invasive procedures are safe and comfortable, and they conclude within an hour and involve no downtime. We avoid vein surgeries because they’re needlessly risky and complex.
Is laser a good option for me?
We generally advise against laser therapy for spider veins because sclerotherapy is a more effective alternative. Laser therapy is generally offered in medical spas because it doesn’t have to be performed by certified vein doctors. However, laser therapy is extremely inefficient compared to sclerotherapy and carries a high risk of recurrence.
Do you stirp veins?
This is an outdated procedure, with greater risks than other treatments on the market. The procedures we do in office are so minimally invasive and easy that most of our patients do them on their lunch breaks and go straight back to work! That being said, we haven’t assessed your case personally yet so without seeing you, it’s tough to know what the best route of treatment is for you. The best thing to do is come in for a consult with one of our doctors and we can take things from there.
Insurance
Will my insurance pay for my whole treatment?
It will depend on what treatments the doctor chooses for you and also it’s based on whether or not the doctor considers your case as a medical case. For instance, in some patients a vein case can be classified as medical if you have discomfort with your vein problems. The doctor can tell you more during your consultation with them.

How do I know if I am covered by my insurance to get a procedure?

Finally, we’ll provide a complete overview of your insurance coverage after your first appointment so you know if you’re covered before the procedure.
